The 1st Arab-American Frontiers of Science, Engineering, and Medicine symposium
The U.S. National Academies have partnered
with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) over the last two years
to develop an Arab-American Frontiers of
Science, Engineering, and Medicine program. The program envisions a
series of symposia over the next five years to bring together young scientists,
engineers, and medical professionals from the 22 countries of the Arab League
and the
KISR will host the first Frontiers symposium from October 17 to 19, 2011. While this symposium will focus on the topics of water, renewable energy, agriculture, and diabetes.
This is the first time that the U.S. National Academies and KISR are bringing together some of the best young scientists, engineers, and medical professionals from the United States and the countries of the Arab League. In response for our call for application we have received about 300 applications from highly qualified researchers which has made the selection process challenging. Congratulations on being selected from such a competitive pool! The deadline has passed, and no more applications are accepted.
The Arab-American Frontiers symposium intends to bring together researchers from many different disciplines. Thus, while the topics of the meeting are designed to explore the Frontiers of research in the fields of water, dryland agriculture/food security, renewable energy, and diabetes, and the linkages of those four broad fields (see attached agenda), we will have participants whose research is not directly related to any of those topics. However, past experiences have shown that this leads to very interesting cross-disciplinary discussions and research collaboration.
The 1st Arab-American Frontiers symposium brings together over 100 outstanding young scientists, engineers, and medical professionals from 21 countries together to discuss exciting advances in the fields of water, renewable energy, diabetes, and agriculture and the linkages between those fields.
Young researchers from around the Arab World as well as representatives of the Arab World Academy of Young Scientists (ArabWAYS) will participate in this conference.
