German-Middle East conference for researchers in Jordan
250 academics will be assembling in Amman on 10 and 11 May at the invitation of the Humboldt Foundation and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
Some 250 academics from more than 20 countries – most of them from the Near East and Northern Africa – will meet in Amman on 10 and 11 May at the invitation of the Humboldt Foundation and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities for the German-Middle East International Conference. The event is being held under the patronage of King Abdullah II of Jordan.
The aim of the conference is to promote expert discussions and cultural dialogue between academics of all disciplines from the Arab region and Germany and to encourage the creation of scientific networks. In addition to the Humboldt Foundation and the BBAW, representatives of the German Research Foundation and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) will also participate and present information on research funding opportunities and academic cooperation with Germany.
The DAAD will support a Young Scientists Workshop which is designed to present the working conditions of junior researchers in the Arab region as well as networking.
The second day will essentially be dedicated to discussions between Humboldt Alumni from the region and to the development of new focus areas for regional and international networking.
After the colloquium, the Humboldt delegation, led by its President, Helmut Schwarz, will visit a number of Jordanian universities.
To date, the Humboldt Foundation has enabled almost 1,300 highly-qualified academics from the Near East and Northern Africa to spend time researching in Germany. These academics often hold leading political as well as academic positions in their own countries and thus drive forward important academic and social issues.
