Maghreb workshop: How to monitor and measure adaptation?
How can adaptation be monitored and measured – and what exactly is
the objective of the M&E system? Which indicators can we use? Which
institutional aspects should be considered? These questions were discussed at a
workshop in Tunis in October 2012. The exchange was organised by GIZ in the
context of the regional working group ‘Climat plus Maghreb’.
25 participants
from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia as well as a guest from Mali elaborated the
methodological approach and a work plan for setting up M&E systems of
adaptation to climate change. Government representatives, development programme
officers and GIZ staff jointly worked on three concrete cases: (1) the national
sylvo-pastoral development programme ODESYPANO in Tunisia, (2) two regional
environment and sustainable development observatories (OREDDS) in Morocco, and
(3) national M&E systems in the context of climate change strategies, which
are currently under development or have been elaborated recently in the three
countries.
