Water and Green Economy
On October 3-4th, two important meetings were held on Water and Green Economy. Both events were intended as prepararation for Rio+20 which will be held in June 2012 in the Brazilian city. Following the World Water Week in Stockholm, major international organizations are pushing to get water higher on the Agenda of the Earth Summit. The first meeting was held in New Delhi, India. Commissioner Janez Potoċnik went to Ministerial Dialogue on Green Economy and Inclusive Growth to remind the important role played by Europe in developing green technologies. He particularly underlined the importance of better management of natural resources including water.
The second meeting was held in Zaragoza in Spain. The event gathered UN Organisations and many water stakeholders. The main goal was to discuss sustainable financing to address water challenges in particular regarding urban growth and poverty eradication.
