The Genoa Water Forum dedicates a day to water and peace between Palestinians and Israeli’s
The International Water Festival, organized by Federutility, with the cultural, artistic and logistical support of the Municipality of Genoa (Italy), faced the theme of water resources and water from a scientific, economic, legal, historical, philosophical point of view. Between 4 and 10 September the Ligurian capital hosted 120 speakers, 70 managers and more than 30 conferences and meetings to read the water in all its forms. The festival ended with the white night of September 10 in Genoa.
A day was dedicated to water and peace between Palestinians and Israeli’s with the presence of Mr. Massimo D’Alema, former Prime Minister of Italy, the Heads of the Israeli and Palestinian Water Authorities, representatives of the Italian Foreign Ministry and other individuals interested in Middle Eastern peace and water issues.
In conclusion of his speech, the Italian former Prime Minister urged his country to finance the strategic desalination plant project in Gaza. While Mr. Walter Mazzetti, EMWIS Steering Committee President, gave his opinion on Palestinian – Israeli relations and reiterated Israel’s technical advances in the field of water and Palestinians suffering due to a lack of it, especially in the Gaza Strip. He suggested that a third party is needed in the JWC to help both parties move forward in developing joint water resources. |
