Arab Water Ministerial Council Approves Arab Water Strategy
The Arab Water Ministerial Meeting in Cairo approved recently a draft of the unified Arab water strategy that is to be adopted by Arab countries in the near future. “The strategy will cover the period until 2030 and will be reviewed every five years,” said Mohamed al Tweigri, assistant Arab League secretary for economic affairs.
At the meeting, chaired by Algerian Minister of Water Resources Abdel Malek Sallal, participants discussed water management issues in the Arab world. “Ministers discussed the possibility of holding an international conference on water in the occupied Arab territories in Palestine and Syria ,” said al Tweigri. “We discussed water desalination, irrigation water management, ways of financing major water projects as well as privatization programs in water sector,” he added.
