Spain: Emergency works to improve the Automatic Hydrological Information System (AHIS) of the Hydrological Confederation of Júcar
The Cabinet has given its approval to the emergency works that the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) performed to repair and improve infrastructure of the Automatic Hydrological Information System (AHIS)of the Confederation of Júcar after September 2009.
The MARM invested in these actions 2 millions of euros. The recent floods in the basin have shown that Júcar AHIS is able to provide real-time comprehensive information on the situation of the reservoirs, rainfall and circulating flows in major rivers, tributaries, ravines and gullies.
However, in addition to repairing the damage caused by floods, there is a need for information increasingly comprehensive and reliable, and that covers most areas of the basin as possible.
Therefore, it is necessary to improve and make repairs to the damage. Such repairs and adjustments essentially include:
- Cleaning and debris removal.
- Stabilization and regulation of banks and sills, usually by riprap.
- Adjustment of landfills in weirs.
- Formation of shallow water channels.
- Placement of scales avenues.
- Topographic and hydraulic studies.
