World Experts Meet in Bucharest to Strengthen Earth Environmental Monitoring, Data Sharing with Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS)
Last 20th November in Bucharest, the 300 delegates from the Group on Earth Observations concluded a crucial Plenary meeting which paved the way for the next phase in the implementation of GEOSS, the new global monitoring network being built to support science-based decision-making about key environmental issues. A n ambitious international initiative, launched following the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) is co chaired by the European Commission, the US, China and South Africa, gathers 76 countries the European Commission, and over 50 "participating organizations".
