First Announcement and Call for Papers: 2nd International Conference on Water Economics, Statistics, and Finance and Asset Management of Medium and Small Wastewater Utilities

The Department of Environmental Engineering organizes the following two parallel conferences.
1. 2nd International Conference on Water Economics, Statistics, and Finance Alexandroupolis, Thrace - Greece, 3-5 July 2009 (http://www.soc.uoc.gr/iwa) with the cooperation of the Department of Economics of the University of Crete, Greece and the Specialist Group "Economics and Statistics" of IWA,

Asset Management of Medium and Small Wastewater Utilities, Alexandroupolis, Thrace - Greece 3 - 4 July 2009 (http://iwasam.env.duth.gr) with the cooperation of the Specialist Group "Strategic Asset Management" of IWA, There will be one common participation fee. The electronic submission system for full manuscripts is now on.

1. 2nd International Conference on Water Economics, Statistics and Finance:

The conference is aimed at specialists interested in economics, statistics, and financing of water and sanitation. The event is expected to be a great opportunity for the participants to share information and experiences on both fundamental and practical issues. Delegates will have the opportunity of taking part in a forum to debate on a number of important issues:

• how utilities are financed
• the variety of water tariff structures
• measurement of performance
• national and regional water industry statistics
• water facts
• regulation
• water consumption and charging figures

An opportunity will be provided to discuss benchmarking issues with the intent of improving the methodology. IWA wishes to raise the profile of benchmarking and promote it throughout its membership. Benchmarking between water  undertakings provides the opportunity for systematic and detailed performance comparisons identifying real performance improvements.

2. Asset Management of Medium and Small Wastewater Utilities:

The Asset Management of Medium and Small Wastewater Utilities Conference is focused specifically on advances and developments in asset management practices related to wastewater assets. High profile speakers will participate in the conference and high quality papers will be presented. Therefore, the conference will be of interest to professionals working in the strategic asset management of small and medium sized sewerage systems and wastewater treatment works. The Scientific Committee welcomes proposals for platform or poster presentation which fit within one of the topics shown below.
