Morocco: Headed for a brighter future
A mere 14 kilometers of water separate Morocco from Europe. There are plans for a Euro-Mediterranean free trade zone, in which the country is to be included soon. This requires great efforts. The BMZ supports Morocco in meeting the related challenges. During the recent Moroccan-German government negotiations, a special focus was on assistance in the areas of water supply, climate and environmental protection, and the development of renewable energy sources. The latter are helpful both with a view to energy security in Morocco and with a view to protecting the global climate. Moreover, the BMZ supports Morocco in enhancing the competitiveness of its private sector and promoting employment, for instance by providing advice to small and medium enterprises. And not least, one focus is on enhancing gender equality in Morocco. The country has launched a national initiative to fight poverty and social exclusion. German support over the next two years will be 98.5 million euros.
