IFAD and Spain to help Egyptian farmers adapt to climate change
IFAD will assist small Egyptian farmers in adapting to climate change as
part of a climate change initiative approved by the Management Board of the
Spanish Millennium Development Goal Fund on 17 December 2007. The initiative
involves a number of United Nations agencies, each in accordance with its
respective comparative advantage and mandate, in supporting the Government
of Egypt’s efforts to address the challenge of climate change. Working with
the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and its research centres,
IFAD will focus on improving water management and on providing
drought-resistant and heat-tolerant crops to cope with the increased
temperatures.
