Peter Matthews has been awarded the rank of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) – for services to the Water Industry and to the Environment.
The honour was announced on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List on 16
June 2007 in the St. James’s Palace (London). The investiture was carried
out at Buckingham Palace on 15 November 2007. Professor Peter Matthews
was appointed to be Ordinary Officer of the Civil Division of the Order of
the British Empire for his services to the Water Industry and to the
Environment.
Peter obtained his PhD in chemistry and in recent years his experience has
extended from water to general environmental management and migrated from
executive to non-executive responsibilities. In the latter context the focus
has been governance and strategic development. He is very committed on
European and international level. Furthermore, Peter Matthews was President
of CIWEM (Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) -
national member of the EWA. From 1997 to 1998 he was also President of the
European Water Association and is still a member of the Council and the
Management Committee. Peter has several overseas working experiences and is
a very skilled and competent fellow.
