Severe Water Shortage in the Town of Samoe
Hebron – The municipality of Samoe in the south of Hebron called on all
concerned parties to work towards finding a solution to the severe water
shortage in the town. The mayor, Jamil Abu-al-Jadayel, confirmed the
severity of the water shortage resulting from the Simia Well pump l being
out of order. This well is considered the main source of water supply in the
town with its approximately 22,000 inhabitants.
Abu-al-Jadayel further mentioned that the town has been suffering from this
cut off of water supply for a month, during which the problem has been
addressed by purchasing water from the neighboring communities. This has led
to an increase in water price because of the added cost of transportation,
which is another source of discomfort for the residents considering the
difficult economical situation they already face. Abu-al-Jadayel pointed out
that there is no permanent solution to the problem, especially as the
neighboring towns of Dhahriye, the industrial zone of “al-Kassarat
al-Arabia” and the area of Abu-al-Arqan all depend on the Simia Well for
their water supply.
