World Water Week Mediterranean session : Solutions to protect freshwater ecosystems in the Mediterranean basin
The session will bring together experts in the field of freshwater conservation to discuss the importance and ways of protecting and restoring Mediterranean freshwater ecosystems: rivers, lakes, marshes, peatlands and groundwater.
The session will feature the Donors’ Initiative for Mediterranean Freshwater Ecosystems (DIMFE). Created in 2021 by the MAVA Foundation, the Aage V. Jensen Charity Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, DIMFE supports projects related to:
- Conservation and restoration of freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity
- Sustainable use and management of water resources
- Sustainable financing mechanisms for freshwater ecosystem conservation and water management
Several speakers from CSO, and the academic and philanthropic sectors will address existing solutions that can be brought through:
- Field projects (featuring examples from concrete projects in Greece, Malta and Morocco)
- Networking and international collaboration: Mediterranean Water Institute (IME)
- Financing (ex: Sebou Fund, DIMFE)
The discussion will be moderated by a senior journalist to promote a dynamic conversation.
The panel discussion will be followed by a 30-minute question and answer session
