World Water Week in Stockholm 2021

The 2021 edition of World Water Week will be held as a full-scale digital event on 23-27 August, on the theme Building Resilience Faster.

During the week, UN-Water will convene various sessions.

 Presenting the 2021 global status of water and sanitation

Date and Time: Monday 23 August | 17:00-18:25 CEST, with translation into French and Spanish

This event will launch the ‘2021 Progress Updates’ reports for seven SDG 6 global indicators and feature an interactive discussion with the audience about how we are doing on SDG 6 and where we need to accelerate progress.

Agenda:

  • Welcome and introduction by UN-Water
  • Key findings on SDG 6 indicators by WHO, UNICEF, UNEP, UN-Habitat, FAO, UNECE and UNESCO
  • Q&A with the audience
  • Concluding comments by IMI-SDG6 Strategic Advisory Group

Valuing Water, the UN World Water Development Report 2021

Date and Time: Tuesday 24 August | 18:00-19:00

The 2021 edition of the UN World Water Development Report focuses on the theme “Valuing Water” and it identifies ways in which valuation can be promoted as a tool help achieve sustainability. The session will introduce the main findings of this UN-Water flagship publication and discuss its recommendations.

World Water Day 2022 – Groundwater, Making the invisible, visible

Date and Time: Friday 27 August | 14:00-15:00

Groundwater provides almost half of all drinking water worldwide, about 40% of water for irrigated agriculture and about 1/3 of water supply required for industry. It sustains ecosystems, maintains the baseflow of rivers and prevents land subsidence and seawater intrusion.
This event will present the 2022 World Water Day and World Toilet Day campaign on Groundwater and participants will get a chance to learn more about the theme through a panel discussion, get a preview of the forthcoming UN World Water Development Report and get involved in the campaign.
