Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water 2012: "Working Together for a Water Secure Future"

The Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water will be held in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey during the period 05-06 March, 2012 under the theme “Working Together for a Water Secure Future”. The Conference will be hosted by the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs of the Republic of Turkey.

The Objective of the Conference include, among others, the adoption of the OIC Water Vision document which has been prepared by an Advisory Panel of Experts, composed of prominent experts from all the OIC regions, pursuant to the decisions adopted by the 37th session of Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the OIC (Dushanbe, 18 – 20 May 2010). The OIC Water Vision provides a framework of cooperation on water-related issues in terms of knowledge sharing, sharing of experience, capacity development, technology transfer, water governance and institutional reforms. There will also be a Ministerial Roundtable session to discuss issues and challenges related to the implementation of the OIC Water Vision.

The Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water unites ministers from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) with the aim of establishing a framework of cooperation on issues surrounding water management. The conference is an attempt to streamline efforts on water management amongst the 57 OIC member states, many of which suffer from water scarcity. This year's conference is hosted by Turkey under the theme 'Working Together for a Water Secure Future'.
