June 2010 International Water Law Symposium in Dundee, Scotland.
This event will take place from Monday 21st June to Thursday 24th June 2010 (inclusive) and offers a unique opportunity to hear from and interact with internationally renowned speakers, and to review and explore high profile transboundary waters case studies, within a cohort of international water resource experts. The approach includes practical exercises exploring legal, political and diplomatic factors that influence the evolving development of the rules of international law that govern the uses of the world's shared fresh waters.
Key topics to be addressed include:
* What is international water law and how does it promote regional peace and security?
* How do international legal frameworks support and interface with national decision-making and strategic policy development related to transboundary water resources planning and management?
* Who is entitled to use transboundary freshwater resources - why and how?
* How does international law reconcile competing claims over the uses of transboundary fresh waters?
* What diplomatic strategies and tactics can nation-states employ to secure the best legal outcomes in light of their transboundary water interests?
This symposium promises to be a hugely informative, intense, stimulating and varied four days. After a full day of activity you will also have the opportunity to explore some of Scotland's treasures including a private viewing at Dundee's historic McManus Art Gallery.
