Workshop on adaptation to climate change in transboundary basins and third meeting of the Task Force on water and climate (Geneva, 10-12 May 2010) and the third meeting of the Task Force on Water and Climate
A workshop on water and adaptation to climate change in transboundary basins will be held on 10-11 May 2010 in Geneva under the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention), back-to-back with the third meeting of the Task Force on Water and Climate (12 May).
The workshop aims to promote exchange of experience with adaptation of water management to climate change, especially in transboundary basins, to show how cooperation can be established in every step of developing an adaptation strategy, to support countries developing such strategies and pilot projects and to promote implementation of the Guidance on Water and Adaptation to Climate Change.
As you probably know, after having adopted the Guidance at its fifth session in November 2009 in Geneva, the Meeting of the Parties decided to foster implementation of the Guidance through a programme of pilot projects and a platform for exchanging experience with adaptation in the transboundary context. The workshop and Task Force meeting are important steps in this process; the pilot projects programme and design of the platform will, among other issues, be discussed.
The working languages will be English, French and Russian. For your convenience the information notice for the workshop as well as the provisional agenda for the Task Force meeting are attached. All relevant documents for the meeting will be made available at
http://www.unece.org/env/water/meetings/transboundary_adaptation_workshop.html for the workshop
and http://www.unece.org/env/water/water_and_climate.htm for the Task Force meeting.
