Ministerial Meeting 2010:" Danube Basin: shared waters - joint responsibilities"
The ICPDR is hosting the second Ministerial Meeting of the Danube River Protection Convention. Ministers and high-level representatives responsible for water resources management in the Danube River Basin will come together on Tuesday, 16 February 2010 in Vienna (Austria).
The Ministers will evaluate the progress towards the protection and sustainable use of water and other ecological resources and reaffirm and strengthen their commitment to transboundary cooperation in the Danube River Basin.
The Danube River Basin Management Plan, which has been developed jointly by all countries of the Danube River Basin in the framework of the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive, will be adopted and henceforward be the basis for the sustainable development of the Danube Basin. Over 200 experts have been working on this plan over the past 4 years under the guidance of the ICPDR.
As the highlight of the meeting, the ministers of all Danube countries will endorse a ‘Danube Declaration’, which expresses the commitment to further reinforce transboundary cooperation on sustainable water resource management within the Danube River Basin.
