Joint CIWEM/ASTEE/EWA Conference in Lille: Water Framework Directive - Emerging Challenges
This conference will explore crucially important issues which have developed since the Water Framework Directive came into force in 2000.
The aim of this conference is to provide an opportunity to share experiences, to gain feedback on innovative practical solutions and to address key topics about the operational implementation of the WFD.
Confirmed speakers include József Gayer, Hungarian Ministry of Environment and Water discussing WFD related Public Participation in Hungary and keynote speaker Peter Gammeltoft, Head of Water Unit, DG Environment. CIWEM President Ken Shapland, Severn Trent Water will also chair a session.
Topics include flood risk management; water scarcity; adapting to climate change; public participation in WFD implementation amongst others. Case studies include a review of the Olt River basin in Romania and heatwave impacts in the river quality in the Rhine and Meuse.
The objectives of the conference are to:
- Brief and update delegates on a range of challenges that have linkages to the WFD
- Explore the next steps in addressing these challenges
- Bring together a diverse audience from across the EC for knowledge sharing and networking
- Highlight examples where integration of sectors and disciplines has been demonstrated successfully
