Water saving in Mediterranean agriculture

WASAMED is a Thematic Network that contributes to the achievement of
an effective regional planning and management of water resources under
scarcity to enhance sustainable development in the Mediterranean area.
- In particular, WASAMED addresses to the improvement of
co-ordination and dissemination of research, information and construction of
knowledgebase in the Mediterranean countries on the various opportunities of
water saving in agriculture to reduce pressure on freshwaters, to mitigate
the increasing impact of climate change in arid-semiarid environment and to
reduce the tensions originated from the increasing water conflicts.
- The network aims at providing research reviews, knowledgebase,
dissemination, communication and coordination among the relevant key players
(researchers, decision makers, end-users).

Objectives | WASAMED will: - Establish a Mediterranean-wide structure to enable communication and sharing of experience between researchers, decision makers, end-users; - link research activities to the real needs and concern from all the Mediterranean countries; - allow access to easy-to use information based on a rational extraction of knowledge from research and comprehensive knowledgebase on water saving in Mediterranean agriculture; - construct a knowledge base for an harmonised and integrated water saving in agriculture at regional level; - discuss and build up a framework to assist regional planning and EU-funding in water management throughout the Mediterranean region. |
