Natural baseline quality in European aquifers: a basis for aquifer management
- It will establish criteria for defining natural groundwater quality
baselines and will develop a standardised Europe-wide approach. The
deliverables will relate both to advances in sciences as well as firm policy
recommendations and teaching material for end-users. Is main aim is to
provide support for the emerging Water Framework Directive.
- It will have value
a) in relation to definition of pure, uncontaminated groundwater
b) implementation of policies on monitoring strategies
c) information related to the public (including non-specialists in the water
industry) understanding of the ground water environment and
d) providing a framework for understanding the impacts of pollution in a
risk-based way and determining acceptable concentrations.
